About the Study

Mpox arrived in Canada in May 2022, and rapidly spread across Canada, providing a significant challenge to clinicians who had not had experience with the infection previously. It was of vital importance that we share our clinical experience rapidly and globally, to assist other clinicians in recognizing this emerging pathogen. The mpox case series was therefore initially developed to contribute to a national and international anonymized case series of patients with mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) infection in the context of the 2022 global outbreak. The purpose was to describe the clinical presentation by extracting data from participants’ medical records and laboratory reports. As the epidemic progressed, we also focused on the prevalence of myocarditis, a previously unreported complication of mpox infection.
