About the Guidelines

The first Canadian guideline on HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and nonoccupational postexposure prophylaxis was published in 2017. There has been much progress made since that time, from new regimens to new treatments being developed. Therefore, the Options Lab undertook to lead an update on the guidelines in 2024. An interdisciplinary panel of experts was assembled, and a systematic literature sure was completed. Sixteen writing groups updated the text. Nine stakeholder groups were engaged to provide feedback on priorities and expectations for the guideline update, and to provide feedback on drafts. The guideline was finalized in 2024 and was accepted by the Canadian Medical Association Journal in 2025.
